Chapter 21: The Immune System: Innate
and Adaptive Body Defenses

So what is the Immune System? To answer that question in basic terms, it is your bodies natural defense mechanism. It protects your body from bacteria/disease/viruses which you may encounter on a day to day basis. Your body has two different ways it achives protection :

1. Innate Defensive System - This is your bodies way of non-specifically attacking foreign entities within itself. Some examples of nonspecific defenses include Inflammation, Fevers, Interferon & Complement Proteins. Each of these examples nonspecifically defend your body.

2. Adaptive Defensive System - Your body is also capable of defending itself in a more specific manner. It does so by supplying your body with such things as Antibodies and different forms of T-Cells.
